(PEE PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Annexation of Cook Islands. Wellington, June 13. A proclamation (was published in the Gazette to-night appointing June 11th as the date for the extension of the boundaries of the colony to include the Cook and other islands. This proclamation has particular interest as bearing the signature of the Duke of Cornwall and York. The Vacant Seat. Christchurch, Juno 13. A requisition is being signed asking Hon W. Rolleston to contest the vacant city seat. Attempted Murder. Invercargill, June 13. The trial of Charles Arnett for attempt to poison White and Gordon at Edendale in October last was concluded. The jury retired at 3.50 and at 10 the foreman having said there was no probability of their agreeing. His Honor discharged them and said he would make an order for prisoner to bo tried again this sitting. The Crown Prosecutor stated ho had purposed going on with the indictment against Arnett for attempting to murder Charles Milne, the man whose money he had stolon and who was not included in the charge just heard. Tuesday next was fixed for the hearing.
