OUR KUMARA LETTER.
[OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.]
This evening at 7 30 a meeting of the executive of the Kumara Literary and Debating Society will take place in the Town Hall to consider some important business, part of which is the proposed visit to Greymonth. At 8p m the usual fortnightly meeting of the Club takes place. A good muster is expected, seeing that the weather has at last taken up. The children of both schools are to bo given a treat at the Theatre Royal this afternoon, in honor of the landing of the Cornwalls at Auckland. * The Volunteer Band played an excellent programme of music at the Hospital grounds to the delight of the patients on Sunday afternoon. Speaking of bands reminds me that one of those unaccountable fits of depression or rather disorganisation has overtaken the Catholic bond. Periodically this fit of apathy seems to effect all local institutions. Let us hope that as the darkest hour is just before the dawn, so the condition noted is only the forerunner of a period of activity, It would bo a pity if either bands should disband, for apart from pleasure of their public performances they are quite an institution in the district so long have they ministered to the wants of concert and picnic organisers;
On Sunday last the first anniversary of his ordination to the Priesthood, the Rev Father Leen was presented by the children of the Communion and Confirmation class with a beautiful souvenir in memory of the occasion, and as a small token ot gratitude for the care and attention ho has lavished on them. The gift took the form of aa artistically wrought writing desk and a beautiful dressing case.
