Received this day at 9.1 a.m. London, May 19,
"Nature " in commenting upon the differences that arose in regard to the command of the projected expedition for the Antartic Rogions, blames the council of the Royal Geographical Sociecty for refusing to endorse the compromise, which R. A. Gregory accepted.
Professor E. B. Poulton accuses some of the committee-men, of the Royal Society, of having sacrificed an exceptionally competent Antartic scientific leader for the sake of peace. The difficulty arose between the Royal Society and the Geographical Society. The former insisting that the command should devolve on the director of the civilian staff, while the other staff demanded that it should be a naval officer.
