OCEANIC STEAMSHIP COMPANY

This companj', whose line of route is from New'Zcaland to San Francisco, is determined to foster ard encourage the trade, and with that object in view have appointed Messrs. Kettle Brothers of Greymouth their Greymouth agents, through whom all business can be transacted and all information obtained.

Of the route to America and England, it may be mentioned that the new sister ships "Sierra," ".Sonoma,",and "Ventura " are especially passenger steamers, twin screws, and 0,000 tons each, sailing every 21 days from Sydney via Auckland, Pago Pago (Samoa), and Honolulu to San Francisco-vconnection with the American trans-continental trains at San Francisco for all points; eight through passenger trains daily crossing United States, touching principal and important

cities—Portland. Los Angeles, Ogden, Salt Lake City, Denver, Chicago, St. Louis, Washington, Philadelphia, Boston, Montreal, and New York, thence via the splendid Atlantic liners of the Cunard, American, White Star, N.D.L.. and Hamburg-American ; as well as many liners of lesser note to Great Britain and the Continent. The "Sierra," "Sonoma," and " Ventura " have every modern convenience in ship architecture ; they have double bottoms, water-tight compartments, ' two sets of triple expansion engines, which develop over 8,000 horsepower; twin screws, that drive the steamers at 17 knots per hour. There are no steamers at present in the Pacific trade that compare with these sister ships. The upper deck cabins are all large size, lighted and ventilated by large windows opening on the deck ; the entrance to the cabins is from the inside of the deck. The ventilation of the steamers is perfect, being provided with forced draft and electric fans, which entirely free them from the closeness and odours frequently found on ocean ' steamers. They are of good beam and provided with bilge keels. Accommodation for 240 first-class passengers. 100 second-class, and 100 third-class. TIME OF PASSAGE.
