A HOSPITAL SCANDAL.

[per press association.]

Invercargill, May 9,

When the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board hero appointed a secretary a month ago there was sharp comment on the fact that the appointed was the ion of a member of the Board, who sat and voted by ballot on the application, it being inferred that he had voted for his son. The appointment was made on the vote of the chairman, the runner-up being the then secretary, who had hold the position for several years, but had never been formally employed, having taken up the work for the previous secretary, who was incapacitated. Two members of the Board gave notice to move at to-day’s meeting—one that the resolution of the Board appointing Eeginald Day secretary and treasurer bo rescinded, and two, that the solictor’s opinion bo obtained as to the validity of a member of the Board giving his vote in favour of his son. When the motions came on the chairman ruled them out of order —as regarded the first, because Day had been appointed for dirce months, and the proper course for those who wished to undo the appointment was to move that the secretary receive throe months’ notice. As regarded the second motion, the voting was by ballot, at the instance of tae prosens movers, and no one was supposed to know how Day voted. MrD. Roche said that ho would take steps to compel the chairman to allow the motion to be discussed, and after some heated remarks the meeting closed.
