[Pur: Press Association.]
Dunedin, April 28.
Intimation has been received that the Bruce Woollen Mills has been destroyed by fire. No details arc to hand. The damage if everything is destroyed will be about £27,000. Word was received by the Dunedin fire brigade through the railway department asking for assistance, but as it was so far, and it would have taken two hours to get up steam, and only the manual engine was available so no assistance was sent.
The fire at the Bruce "Woollen Mills originated in the engine or boiler room. There was no local fire brigade, and the crowd that gathered could only save a portion of the stock, none of the valuable new machinery being saved. The insurances amount to £24,000. It is equally divided between the Victorian and the Alliance. Both corapanya are reinsured.
