In the Opera House on Thursday evening His Lordship the Eight Bev Dr Julius Bishop of Chrislchurch will deliver a Lecture on Norfolk Island and work in connection with the Melanesian Mission. The lecture will be illustrated with a number of beautiful views of Native life and Island scenery, shown through the Bishop's powerful Lime Light Lantern. We need not refer to the Bishop's ability as a lecturer this is too well known to need comment, neither to the excellence of the views which are superb. We simply say that an intellectual treat, both entertaining and instructive is in store for those who visit the Opera House on Thursday and the large building should be crowded to the doors.
Messrs M'Mil'.an and Thompson the contractors for the erection of the machinery of the Perry's Reward dredge arc pushing on the work with all speed. The bucket ladder was hung on Saturday and they e-xpect within a fortnight to get a turn out of the machinery. The Hau Jfau dredge is expected to start within a month. All the machinery for the Hokitika River dredge except the boi'er is now to hand and the work of erection is now being pushed on. The thirtieth anniversary of the St John's Presbyterian Sunday School will bo celebrated tomorrow evening in the Church by a grand concert and well-known chorus of the Church of 50 voices. These concerls on behalf of the school have always been looked forward to as one of tho events of the year, and as the little ones havo gone into the matter with a hearty desire to make it a success, we havo no doubt ilie church will be crowded to its uttermost capacity.
