London, April 18. The authorities at Washington, after alleging that America controlled the diplomatic situation at Pekin, now acknowledges Germany’s privacy owing to the support of Austria, Italy, Spain, Holland and Belgium enabling Germany to outvote America, England and Spain. It is stated in Berlin that Germany claims 12 million pounds, Russia 17, and France 13, exclusive of heavy unspecified compensation for the massacred Catholics. England’s claim is about o millions and Japan’s 7, strictly for outlay incurred. The American claim is not specifiedAmerica believes that China is only able to afford 40 millions, which the Allies ought to apportion equitably. The Daily Express states that the place in Pekin used as Count von Walkersee’s headquarters was destroyed by fire and only the military papers were saved. General Schwarfczoff is missing.
