Tbe following Now Zealanders are mentioned in Lord Roberta’s despatch : Oolonel Newell, Majors Craddock, Davies Jowsey, Robin ; Captains Poison and Major; Lieutenants Bauchnp, Br dburne, Hughs, Rolloston, Tora(?i; Sergt-M-jor Buro, Fletcher, Harper; Sergts Cassidy, Hazlett, Lucy, limeer; Ootporals Harper, Hogg; Troopers Gallaway, Holroyd ; Private Wade. 49 Canadians, 14 Tasmanians, 14 Victorian, 16 Westralians, 24 Queenslanders and 17 South Australians are also rasntlo A. Milner on the 3rd asked for a short leave while operations are in progress or he would otherwise approach the work of reconstruction with lessened efficiency.
Chamberlain, while regretting the necessity of his departure, and recognising the severe strain on him, granted a three months’ leave. The Standard hints that the income tax will not be increased and that the bu lk of the deficit will be made additional to tae permanent debit until the new colonies in South Africa relieve the Motherland.
