LOST OVERBOARD.

Wellington, April 17. Mr George E. Sainsbury, a well-known Napier barrister, was lost overboard from the steamer Monowai yesterday morning while the vessel wa3 on the passage from Sydney to this port. Mr Sainsbury left tliis colony accompanied by Mrs Sainsbury, about a year ago for a European tour, and wa3 returning to his homo. It appears that the first intimation of anything having happened to the unfortunate gentleman was conveyed to the officer on watch at about five minutes past six, Sainsbury being then reported to bo missing. The vessel was immediately put about and a search made, but no trace was found. There is reason to suppose that tho mishap occurred an hour or two before the time referred to.
