Australian Politics. Sydney, April 12 Consequent upon entering the Federal politics, Jfteid has resigned .the leadership of the State Opposition. Members eulo- ' • gised his leadership. At a meeting of the Federal Freotrade and Liberal Committee to consider the question of continuing organisation for the future election work, Reid in a speech said : Freetraders had captured the Federal Senate and very nearly captured the House. He predicted that in time it would secure for the Commonwealth the .most sound and liberal tariff in the world. The other speakers condemned the method of appointing Fegan. Small Pox Prosecution.
The captain of the steamer Euryalus, on which were small pox cases recently, has been committed for trial for breach of the Quarantine Act in making a false answer to the health officer that there was no sickness aboard during the voyage.
