CHRISTAIN ENDEAVOUR CONVENTION.
The sixth annual union of Christian Endeavour societies on the West Coast was held at Hokitika yesterday in the Presbyterian Church, the attendance being about 500. The weather was fine, the church tastefull decorated and the catering arrangements perfect, reflecting much credit on the Hokitika and Woodstock Societies. The Convention will be hold in Eeefton next year. The meeting opened at 2 p. m. with hymn and Prayer. In the absence of the Eev Mr Gray Greymouth in consequence of ill health, the Eev Mr Douglas of Hokitika presided and gave a hearty welcome to the visitors.
Mr B 0 Warnes in his annual report, showed that the general condition of the different societies was flourishing.
With regard to the Rootton Wesleyan society having disbanded Mr Stewart said that it was not official so, but disdiscontinuanco of their meetings was only due to members leaving the district and death overtaking their leader, and there was a likelihood of a continuance of the usual meetings, The Treasurer’s report showed the finances of the Convention to bo £5 15s better than last year. The following are the committee of management for the ensuing year:— President Rev Mr Douglas ; Vice-Presi-dents, Rev Greig, Mr Houston and Mrs Sheath; Secretary, Mr B. C. Ten minutes paper “The Consecrated Life,” by Greymouth Wesleyan was an one, dealing with the refining process, the keeping power of the Spirit of God and the proper use of our talents for righteousness.
A solo was sweetly sung by Roetton Presbyterian. Report on Chinese Mission work by Mr Lue. The Chinese catechist, through some misunderstanding, not being present, the Rev. Mr Stewart filled the breach and read the report, which showed that the work was somewhat hampered financially, though not spiritually. A solo by Reef ton Wesleyan was distinctly rendered. The Rev. Mr Greig conducted the consecration service and the meeting adjourned for tea. In the evening. Mr Nicholson, of Woodstock, delivered an in-
teresting address', pointing out the necessity of a stronger and resolute spirit than our own in order to go on toward overy improvement. A trio was an admirable rendition.
