THE KUMARA RACES.

(our own correspondent.)

Subjoined are the acceptances for the Easter Monday’s races at Kumara. I might mention that they are all genuine. From the list it will be seen that we will be, in all probability, favored with the majority of the horses. The rain that has fallen has been very welcome, not only to local miners who needed it in order to wash up, but also to our racecourse, in splendid trim, but perhaps a trifle hard, the rain will make it as near perfect as possible. Given a fine day we toe hope to put up a record meeting.

In this connection I wish to m'entio 11 that our coaching accommodation has just received a very welcome addition. A splendid new drag built by Messrs Boon and Co of Christchurch, to the order of Mr Rugg, a noted local Jehu, for the Kumara station road traffic arrived at town at mid-day yesterday. It is well within the mark to say that whatever we arc behind in, it is not in coaching business, thanks to our enterprising townsman Mr Rugg. The special trains arranged for at a quarter to ten on Monday and Tuesday, have been dispensed with as the department have decided to run an ordinary train at 9.30 a.m., and at 10.45 a.m. This should suit the convenience of all.
