Tho Finance Committee in connection with the Boyal reception to-day allocated £tioo for two arches, one at the foot of Yv r olleslcy.street and one near Government House. The Harbor Board and Government will each erect an arch, making four altogether. The committee a located £1,700 covering arches, street decorations, illumination of arches, bunting, carriages, printing, secretarial. expenses and fireworks. The committee resolved that a presentation of medals to school children, bsing a Colonial not civic matter, the cost should be borno by the Government.

A largo and representative public meeting convened by the Mayor was held in the Town Hall'to make preliminary' arrangements in connection with tho approaching Boyal Visit. Before the meeting closed Mr John Holmes, Govermeni Executive Commissioner, who arrived by express, put in an appearance and spoke. The meeting was enthusiastic and unanimous excepi as lodetails. Mr Hugh M'Lcan, iu the courscof some remarks, said this was a case in which they should be prepared to expend freely, tho qu:st on of funds should never have been raised and would not had tho L'remicr been approached in a more considerate manner. Members of both Houses would willingly assist in passing an Indemnity Bill. A motion was" carried to give tho Royal visitors a welcome worthy of such a great occasion. An executive committee representative of Otugo and Southland was appointed and also seven subcommittees.
