FEDERATION WITH AUSTRALIA.
[per press association]
Auckland, This day. The morning after the arrival of the Sydney Federation Commission they had an interview with the Hon Mr John Colonial Secretary for New South Wales and Hon E. B. o‘Connor Vice President of the Federal Council, who in the absence of the Hon Barton were acting on his behalf. Both gentlemen expressed a strong desire that New Zealand should join Commonwealth. From what transpired at the interview it appears certain that Now Zealand would experience no difficulty in obtaining admittance on terms no less favorable than those accorded to the original estates.
On March 12th, the commission had a long interview with Barton, the Federal Premier, who, like other Ministers, expressed an earnest desire that New Zealand should join. Ho declared the willingness of himself and colleagues to facilitate the union by offering the most liberal terms.
The same evening at a dinner given to the Commissioners, Barton reiterated the desire of his Government for united Australia.
