GREY BOROUGH COUNCIL.
A special meeting of the Borough Council was hold last night. Present; —His Wor ship tho Mayor (chair) Messrs Sheedy Ashton, Joyce, Steer, M'Lean and Bignell.
Mr Mathoson moved by special order to enclose and cover watercourses, which by reason of sewerage running therein have become a nuisance, viz., “All those streams and watercourses running through block 37 in the Native town of Oreymouth from Alexander street to TAnui streei.” Mr Sheedy seconded the motion which was carried.
From Department of Agriculture relative to the establishment of abattoirs; pointing out that tho Act comas into force in April, and that all Boroughs with over '2,003 inhabitants must establish same wilhin twelve months, Tho Mayor moved that the Chairmans of Work and Finance Committees, Crs. Bignell, M‘Lean, Petrie, and the mover forma committee to investigate into the matter.
Cr Sheedy said it would bo a good idea to ask the County Council and Brunner Borough to join in the proposal. From Mr Flangan in reference to tho Town Hall site offering his ground for £IOO and 20 feet of tho street. Resolved that tho matter stand over till next meeting for report of site committae. Cr Sheedy said that it was a very important matter, He was in favor of Boundary Street at first, but a barrier had sprung up which turned the question altogether Mr Flaugan asked for too much. Cr Joyce said that the consideration of such an important matter should not bo let stand over. He thought Councillors should attend all meetings. From Secretary water gas company Sydney in reference to supplying plant. Referred to gas works committee. • From Mr Low of A.M.P. in reference to the interest and debentures on loans. Received.
Secretary of'the Treasury—Refusing application for loan for extinguishment of overdraft. Mr Sheedy expressed surprise at such a course being adopted by the Government. Mr Matheson said that he did not think the Goverr menu had the momy at present. Bat they could get it elsewhere. Mr Petrie here took his seat.
His Worship the Mayor intimated that he had urgent private business await|3„ him, and asked the Council to excuse him from attendance for the remainder of the evening. Ho moved that Mr Petrie then take the chair. Carried.
“ The contrartor for cartage of nightsoil and rubbish applied for an increase in price per pan. Referred to the Works’ Committee.! From the Town Hall Committee recommendinding ihe premises of 0. Smith for temporary office. Report adopted. Messrs Joyce and Sheedy said, that the rent was very high. He (Sheedy) prid that Mr McLean’s premises were Offered for £1 per week. Mr Petrie in moving the adoption said : the Committee had no option in the matter. Mr Smith’s being the only suitable place. The Committee was perfectly unanimous intbe matter. The Other premises offered were too small. Beport adopted. The following tenders were opened for the obaring and drain Etg of Shakesporo mud Marlbro’ streets : Kennedy, (accepted) |125.
