The Australian Bushmen and scouts at Pienaars River, captured twenty-five natives going to Petersburg carring rifles. They also had their bandoliers filled with cartridges. The Brussels newspaper “Independence Beige” a strong pro-Boor organ, declares that the emancipation of the Republics is impossible; the struggle is useless, barbarous and criminal, and all efforts are desirable to prevent extermination of its people. Received this day at 9 17 a. ra.
London March 14th. Do Wet on the 11th was located between Brandfort and Eensgevoden. The pursuing columns are refitting prior to making another combined movement.
Kitcheners and French’s combinations frustrated Do Wet and Herlzogs. They attempted to dash to St Helena Bay to meet the vessel bringing arms and amunition, while Botha carried out the invasion of Natal. Dc Lisle andGorringo forestalled Kruitzinger at Adelaide 65 miles west of King Williamstown. Kruitzingor then turned north. The Boers derailed a train on the Wilga river, but the block house in the vicinity prevented 600 Boers for two hours from plundering, but eventually the train was sacked and burned. Throe British were killed. The Boers shot eight natives travelling in the train. Reinforcements are arriving. Fifteen Boers were killed and many wounded. Ottawa, March 14. Laurier in a remarkable speech in the House of Commons, declared that the Boers had appealed to the God of Battles whoso verdict favored British rule. By a confederation on Canadian lines, they would secure to South Africa the blessof liberty and justice At the close of tlic Premier’s speech the members rose and sang the national anthem.
