The Sugar Question.
The Sugar Journal, commenting on Mr Barton’s attitude regarding colored labor, says that the real issue was entirely overlooked. The Premier’s utterances are not only a danger to the sugar industry, but a danger to any efforts to establish coffee, tea, spices, or other purely tropical growths. The real question is the settlement of tropical lands, not only in North Queensland but the whole of tropical Australia. Comparatively few realise the immensity of the whole problem.
