Lyne recently requested Copeland to secure the suspension of the American Navigation Law in so far as they related to Hawau. Copeland cabled that the American Ambassador made representations to his Government. He states that as nearly two years have elapsed since the Law came into operation at Hawau it is not feasible to reopen the question. Although desirous of promoting friendly relations with tho commercially of Australia.
