(per press association.) Inspectors of Dairies. "Wellington, This Day. Inspectors of Dairies have been appointed as follows: — Wellington and suburbs: P. C. Thompson of Invercargill. Christchurch suburbs ; Alexander McPherson, formerly manager of the Longburn Freezing Works and at another time manager of one of the New Zealand and Australian Land Company’s stations in South Canterbury. Dunedin and suburbs —G. Parker of Napier. G. M. Williamson, of Gisborne, has been appointed Inspector of Dairies for Auckland city and suburbs, ’Frisco Mail.
The Postal Department is advised that
he Sonoma with British mails of the 2th instant left ’Frisco on the 21th, one ay late.
Saturday’s Hours. Wellington, This Day. On Saturday the following hours are to be observed at all Telegraph Offices in the colony : —Open from 8 to 10 in the morning and 7 to 8 in the evening. Nelson, This Day. The arrangements as to mourning on Saturday are specially inconvenient to Nelson. As Anniversary Day falls on Friday, February Ist, it has been decided by the business people to keep open on Friday and postpone the anniversary celebration till the following Wednesday.
More New Zealanders Gone. Wellington, This Day. The Governor is advised by cable that Captain E. Bartlett and Surgeon Captain Godfray, with two men of the New Zealand Contingents, left Capetown by the Nineveh on the 24th inst., coming via Melbourne.
That Private A. G, Earle of Riversdate, Southland, was killed at Bronkhurst Spruit on the 21st inst. Private Murphy of the Roughriders died of enteric at Kimberley on the 22nd. Private J. P. Roberts, Roughriders, is dangerously ill at Pretoria, Private Baker, Roughriders, is dangerously ill at Bulawayo,
