BRUNNER COAL.
', At the Harbor Board meeting last night, Mr. Guinness, M.H.R., again brought up the matter of boring for coal at Brunner, and with other members expressed a goo 3 deal of surprise at the dilatory manner in which the Mines Department was dealing with the subject—one of grrat importance to this district and' ; 9 colony generally. He intimated i" vt at next meeting ho would move I.'- \t the Harbor Board proceed at once w.'t'a the prospecting irrespective of Government assistance or consent. Of course so far as the latter is concerned, it bag through the Premier been already obtained, but the delay in giving an
official reply is much to bo regretted foi jho position of the Brainier mine is such as to cause the gravest anxiety. We have it upon excellent authority that the present output cmnot be maintained for three years without further developements, and this fact alone shows how essential it is to proceed with further prospecting with as little delay as possible.
