Greymouth Evening Star, AND BRUNNERTON ADVOCATE. THURSDAY, JANUARY 17, 1901. COAL CREEK MINES.
Some time ago we intimated that a change had taken place in the proprietary of the Groymouth and Point Elizabeth Coal Company's property, and that that change was decidedly for the better. We are now in a position to state that Sir Edwyn Dawes, chairman of the New Zealand Shipping Company has purchased the entire property, and as a want of capital is not now likely to interfere with development, we anticipate seeing the railway put in hand, and the mines opened without much further delay. What has been for long wanted has been a firm or company with sufficient funds to develop the industry, and the gentleman we have named not only commands the dollars, but is noted for his energy and business capacity. Upon the return of the Premier at the end of the month matters will" in all likelihood bs definitely settled and men put on to complete the line and open up the mines. With fair dilligence Coal Creek coal should be in the market before the end of the year.
