OUR KUMARA LETTER.
(OUB OWN CORRESPONDENT.)
There passed away on Friday evening last at the local hospital, in the person of Robert Ritchie, one of that fast disappearing band, “ the old timers,
' I c> ised was a native of Scotland, 07 years | vi I, :>■) of which u.tc pc t in the coloIni ?s. Possessed of m.iay ster’ing qualij tit s he was held in h'-rli resp *et by all w i-t know him. The body was interred in the Kumava cemetery on Sunday afternoon and was followed to its last resting place by a large number of people. The burial service was impressively conducted by Mr Thompson of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, of which deceased was a member. Deceased was undo to Mr John Ritchie of Dillmanstown. It is common properly of all who will heed that (ho police arc seeking the whereabouts of an individual who lately absconded, leaving a local gentleman or two in for some £7-5 a piece. As a sequel to the action of (lie Directors of Foley’s Creek Company, in refusing to take over the claim or allot (be paid-up shares, (lie purchasers of these shares are coming back on the original holders for a refund of the purchase money. It is the opinion of some legal gentlemen that the the Company will have to nllott these paid up shares. I fence the original holders who sold need not disgorge. The whole business shows the necessity • for the public exercising ordinary common sense in buying vendors shares. Let them see that they been allotted before completing their purchase. It will prevent many vain regrets and worries, In this case oven the claim had not been transferred to the Company although the dredge was nearly completed. I learn that the directors of the Greenstone Gold Dredging Co., have decided to put down some bores to test the depth of their ground. It is about time some move was made. They have called up 14/- on each share and it is no wonder shareholders hereabouts arc dissatisfied at the apparent lack of energy displayed.
