Drastic Measures to be now Adopted.

London*, January 13. "Basutoland natives report that several commandants who had controlled sections of Do Wet’s force have got tired of the ceaseless movement from place to place and quitted the leaders column disaffected. The commandants arc now conducting operations independently. The Buhfontein garrison and inhabitants together with refugees in the camp have been transferred to Smaldcl. The majority tif the Dutch farmers at Wellington support Kroonstad appeal for peace. The farmers also denounce the idea of an Afrikander mission to the House of Commons and maintain that the despatch of such mission is calculated to prolong the war. Detachments of British troops have been sent to garrison Murraysburg. This has been sullenly received by the local Boers. Numbers of rebels in the neighborhood joined the invaders. The British strongly garrisoned the towns of Groofsreinct Bothsida. Local farmers bring horses in for sale to tlio British. An official declaration has been published in disaffected districts to the effect that there are no neutrals now ; that raiders, rebels, and those passively assisting the invaders will be sternly punished. The declaration has created a great impression. The New Zealand Rough Rider, Alexander D. Ross, died af enteric at Pretoria. W. Millar, belonging to tho same force was accidentally severely wounded at Pretoria.
