THE SIXTH CONTINGENT

Dunedin, Jynuary 8. At a meeting held to-night to take steps to welcome the returning troopers by the Orient, committees were appointed to look after the various arrangements. At a meeting of tho committee afterwards a proposal was made that, say 200 of the Imperial troops now in Australia should be invited to come to New Zealand, including representatives of the Black Watch. Wellington, This Day, Quartermaster Henderson has been appointed paymaster to the Sixth Con. tingent, now camped at Newtown ParkPay begins from the time the men are sworn in. Ihe amount to be paid out will be over £IOO per day. There are at present 450 men in camp, fifteen of whom have already seen active servico in South Africa. Five other officers besides Lieutenant Colonel Banks will be appointed to take charge of the Sixth Contingent. Surgeon-Major Skermm, of Marfcon, has been appointed surgeon of the Sixth Contingent. Dr O'Neill, of the Dunedin Hospital has been choosen as his assistant.
