Owing to the action of the Egyptian Sanitary Board in imposing quarantine on vessels arriving from the East, Lord •hdm Manners, the British Postmaster General, lias consented to the diversion o: the Brindi i mail to the Suez Canal route outwards and homeward, and the 1. & O. ( omtiany have made arrangements whereby their vessels avoid toucliing at Egyptian ports, and mails and passengers via Brindisi pass through' the ( ana! instead ot via Alexandria, thus avoiding the detention and annoyance attendant upon quarantine.
