Transvaal Affairs
(Per Presß Association). London August 6. Mr Chamberlain announced tbe Transvaal had wisely yielded to persuasion and argument regarding breaches of the existing convention with Britain, and negotiations were now proceeding satisfactorily respecting the ratification by Britain of any treaties entered into by tbe Transvaal with the Powers. Sir Wilfred Lawson and several of the Radical members accused Mr Rhodes of treacherous disloyalty, and urgtd that leniency be shown to the British officers wbo took part in the Jamieson raid. Sir John Brodrick, Parliamentary Secretary of tbe War Office, said tbere was uo prospect of those officers being reinstated in their commissions in the British army.
