Feilding Debating Society.
The Feilding Debating Society held its usual fortnightly meeting last evening, when there was a very good atten* dance, most of those present were, however, ladies. Mr J. J. Bagnall, the president, occupied tha chair. The subject under discussion was "That women's work should be valued on the same busis as that of men," Mr J. Wood leading in the affirmative, and the Rev. F. Stubbs opposing, the latter taking that side for the purpose of debate. The question was also discussed by Messrs Haggitt, Watson, Stevens and Andrew, and Mrs Stubbs, who has the distinction of being the first lady speaker in the society and she ably took up the cudgels on behalf of women, trenchantly dealing with the opposition. At the conclusion of the debate a vote was taken, resulting in favor of the affirmative. A letter was received from the Palmerston Debating Society with reference to the public debate with this society at Feilding on June 9. As Mr Stevens, one of those selected to represent Feilding, will be unable to take part in the debate Mr Bagnall was selected in his stead ; the other speakers will be Messrs T. Watson, J. Cobbe, F. F. Haggitt and C. 0. Harrison.
