PRODUCE MARKETS.
Tbe N.Z.L. aud M.A. Company, Ltd., report on the produce markets for the week ending 15th April, 1807 :— Wool.— The March- April scries of London sales closed firmly on 3rd inst., but tbe biddinj; was im?«u!av. Smce close of last sales merino superior, iioo, and medium greasy crossbred are id to Id per lb highor ; slire aud coarse greasy crossbred are par to Ad per lb higher; fine washed crossbred, fine scoured crossbred aud greasy merino, medium and inferior were par to \d per lb losver ; washed merino superior, medium and inferior, and scoure-t merino, medium and inferior were 3d to Id per lb lower ; other descriptions were unchanged Wools of a faulty character were neglected. Locally there is spirited demand for all lots offering, aud ue have no difficulty in placing, at satisfactory prices, the usual odd lots that ( come into the market at this season of . the year. Sheepskins.—A. better tono has prevailed during the week, and sound pelted full-woolled skins have advanced £d per lb in -value. We had a good zr-arket for pelts. We qnoto : — Prime fallwoollecl crossbred skins, s.]d to SJ-d per lb; gnod crossbred, three quarter to full-woolled, 4id to sd ; medium and half-woolled, 3£d to 4id; inferior and broken, 3d to 4d per lb ; merino fultwoolled, Ud to 4:] d per lb ; pelts, early shorn, well saved, up to 2s 6d each ; medium, Is up to Is 9d ; bare pelts, 3d to 6d each. Hides— only a limited number coming forward, with a keen demand for wellflayed heavy ox. Quotations are : green ox," 17s to 17s 6d ; medium, 14s to 14s 6d each; green cow and light ox, 8s to 12s each ; damaged and sloppy, lid to 2d per lb. Tallow — There is no alteration in values to report. The London market continues depressed, and locally the supply is more than equal to the demand. Quotations are: prime mutton tallow, 15s to 15s 6d per cwt ; good mixed, 14s to 14s 3d per cwt ; inferior and badly rendered, 2s to 13s per cwt. Wheat — A very fair demand exists for whole fowl wheat at from Bs lOd to 43 per bushel, sacks extra. Oats — Since our last report prices have firmed to the extent of about 3d per bushel. Taking all reports into consideration, we are unlikely to see oats recede in value a^ain this season. Quotations are : for prime short feed, 2s 5d to 2s 7d, sacks in ; discolored and long feed varieties, 2s 3d to 2s 6d, sacks in, ex wharf. Chaff — Prime lines are decidedly gcarce, and an upward tendency in value is manifest. For prime bright heavy in oats, we quote 72s 6d to 75s per ton, ex wharf, sacks. extra or returnable.
