THE STOCK MARKET.

Mr Matthew Henry reports on his sale on Thursday last : -The supplies of cattle were about the average, rather more than the advertised number coming forward. Sheep, however, were in short supply, but quite equal to requirements. Consequent on the boisterous weather prevailing, the attendance of the public was small and those present operated very cautiously. For grown steers and young cattle, however, there existed a fair enquiry, most of these being quitted before Ihe close of the day at subjoined quotations: - Cattle, 3 year steers, i' 37a 6d ; 2£-year do., £"2 los to £3 ; 2 year steers, £2 7* ; 18 month heifers, £1 IS? ; weaners, 9s SA to 14s 6d ; sheep, shorn lambs, 5s Id ; pigs, Berkshire weanprs, Bs. Mr H. Monteith, of Woodville reports, April 13rh, as follows:— 1 held my stock Bale on Wednesday, 14th. There was a moderate entry ol both cattle nnd sheep, and the change from the usual day somewhat militated against the attendance. Nevertheless a fair amount of business resulted. In cattle there is a decided drop in prices (as compared with previous seasons), of from quite 10s per head in young cattle to 20s per head for grown bullocks, and the sooner local settlers realise the position the better, if they desire to quit their surplus stock before winter sets in, then business will be very hmitr-d, as the prices demanded leave no margin for the purchaser. M.y sales were us follow? : — Cattle— 2} to Syr steers, -fc3 5* ; yem-lin" to 18-mos do,' oos Gd ; weanprs (good), 122s do, small and poor, 9s 6d to 18s 6d. Sheep —Store wethers, 7h 4d ; old ewes in forword condition, 3s 6d ; crock?, 1?.
