Apiti Notes.

(From our own correspondent.) TLe members of the Church of England had a iield day on Monday last. Being a holiday they iuvited all the children iv the Block to a picnic hold in Mr Watson's paddock (kindly leut for the occasion), and the youngsters enjoyed themselves, i'rizes were given for the children's races, and an interval made for refreshments, which were provided by the ladies of the Block Mrs Clapham acted as hostess, and was ably assisted by the young ladies of the district. Iv the evening a concert was given in Guy's Hall, when there was a good attendance. The Rev. Mr Davys stated that tbe concert was in aid of the building fund of the Apiti church. He had interviewed the architect of the diocese, and the sum that would be required to build a church suitable for Apiti would be about £'200. The following ladies and gentlemen assisted at the concert, and tbeir efforts were highly appreciated: -Mrs Starr, Mrs Ciapbam, Misses Gascoigne (o>, Messrs F. Goodbehere, Bain, H. S. Moss, Hargreaves, Claphain, and McGuire. The annual concert which is given by the Apiti school children in aid of their prize fund took place in Gay's Hall last Friday evening. There was a large attendance, the Hall being crowded. The children acquitted themselves to the entire satisfaction of the audience, the credit of which was due to Mrs J. Buck* man and Miss Prendergast for the high state of perfection they had brought the children to. We are getting on our pins about who we are going to support for our electorate (the Rangitikei) in the coming election. We have heard Mr Tolley and most of us have been very favorably impressod by him and we have no doubt that at some future time (seeing that he has declined to stand this time) he will merit the success he deserves. He ia a very able speaker and will make a really good man. I think if he had stood this election time it might have given him a better show if there should be any bye election. Mr Lethbridge seems to have the bulk of the settlers in the block for his committee and you may be sure that they will give their support. If Mr Tolley had gone to th 6 poll there would have been a lot of us who would have supported him seeing that he is one of ourselves.
