Tfrom oce own correspondent. J The Presbyterian social, to wish the Rev. Mr Thompson good bye, and to welcome the Rev. Mr Stubbs in whose circuit Awahuri now is, was held in the Library Hall yesterday evening, and in every way proved a great success. Tho Awahuri choir commenced the proceedings with singing " Blessed is he that cometh." Mr Watson, of Feildmg, was then called on for a speech, in which he said it was to be regretted that Mr Thompson was leaving Awahuri, but the best of friends must part, and that life was made up of contiuua! meetings and partings, but still wo must fight .shoulder to shoulder, and help ou the good work. The Feilding choir thea sang au anthem in splendid stylo, aud was greatly applauded. A speech by Mr Thompson came next, in which he urged the congregation to sup port Mr Stubbs loyally, to be cbeeri'nl aud peaceful. An anthem by the Awahuri choir, " We shall know each other there," i brought the first part of the programme to a close, after which refreshments were handed round by the members of the choir. The second part was opened by tho Awahuri choir singing " How lovely are thy dwellings." Mr Stubbs then made a speech, and hoped they would do' iind fault with one auother, but would bear with each other in any little failings they may have. He said a great responsibility rested on the Minister, and be must look a great deal to the congregation, for a Minister could not succeed without the co- operation of the people. He would do his duties as efficiently and satisfactorily as he could. Song by Mr James, of Feilciing, was very good. A duet by Mrs Reader and Mrs James wns really the best itf-m of the evening. A song by Miss Revel was also very good. Anthem by the Feildiug choir. Mr Tarrant then proposed a j vote of thanks to the visitors and to Feildiug friends. A vote of thanks was accorded to tho Awahuri choir on the motion of Mr Stubbs. Mr Thompson proposed a vote of thanks to the chairman, Mr Nairn, who is eldur of the church. A most enjoyable evening was brought to a close by the choir singing " Hosanna to Jesus."
