(Per Press Association.) Wellington. Oct. 30, The difference between Cable and Co. and the Boilermakers Union continues. In the meantime Mr Cable has filled up the vacancies left in the foundry by the strikers with southern men, and work proceeds as usual. Most if not all of the strikers have found work at Messrs Luke and Co.'s foundry where extra hands happened to be required. Masterton, October 80. Mary Ann Sayers was arrested at Masterton this afternoon on tbe charge of performing an illegal operation on a married women. Auckland, Oct. 30. The self-denial week of the Salvation Army, Northern Division, has realised L 933, against LSBO last year. Gisborne, October 30. An attempt was made last night to burn down the Roseland Hotel Makaraka. The fire was discovered by the proprietor in the nick of time, the flames having a strong hold of the front doorway and spreading rapidly. Several other suspicious fires have occurred at Makaraka recently, in one of which two horees were burned to death in a stable.
