(Per Press Association.) Wanganui, Oct. 6. After a prolonged sitting of over fonr days, the case of Annie Farrel v. G. H. Smith, solocitor, Pahiatua, claim £800 for alleged negligence in advising the plaintiff to distrain in consequence of which £100 damages was awarded ie the District Court, Master ton, was concluded at 3.30 a.m. this morning, wheD a special jury awarded £50 to the plain tiff. The Chief Justice, however, held the findings of the jury were in favor of defendant, and entered up judgment for defendant with costs, leave being re served to plaintiff to set aside judgment and enter judgment for plaintiff on the finding. Auckland, Oct. 6. The South British Insurance Company's balance sheet for the year ended 31st August shows a profit on the year's operations of L 5.377 18s 3d, after adding L 3500 to the re-insurance fund. The amount at the credit of profit and loss is L 14.034 Is 7d. The directors recommend payment of a dividend at the rate of 3s per share, less Is 6d paid in April last. The consecration of Dr Lenihan as E.C. Bishop of Auckland is fixed for November 15th. Bishop Gallagher, of Goulburn, and Bishops Grimes and Verdon are expected to be present.
