[Per Press Association] Brisbane, Oct. 1. In consequence of the bad season and the ravages of the tick, 500 out of 1000 hands employed by the Meat Export Company will be discharged. If the present scarcity of fat cattle continues operations will Bhortly have to be curtailed. Napier, Oct. 1. The Colonial Consignment and Distributing Company cabled Nelson Bros, to-day that the frozen meat market has improved. Quotations — Best Canterbury mutton 3^d per lb, Dunedin 3|d, Napier aud North Island 3yd.
