Trial Shipment of Fruit.
(Per Press Association.) London, October 1. Australian oranges by the steamer Ophir arrived in splendid condition and at auction there was the keenest competition. Some cases fetched as high as 2:5s per case, but the average price was 13s Bd per case. One parcel preserved Parker's process arrived sott and sold at 10s per case. Those packed in pumice were a failure and brought only 6s per case. Sydney, This Day. The result of the sale of the Ophir's oranges has an important bearing on fruit growing in this colony. 800 cases were sent Home by the Government as an experiment. The fruit was wrapped iu tissue paper and packed in well ventilated cases. A few cases only were treated, by Parkers process and pumice packing. So far as can be gathered at present the shipment means a net profit of 3s per case. The fruit was sent somewhat late in the season, butthereis rea,ou to believe an earlier shipment would command even better prices.
