Austria has virtually agreed to recognise Tunis as French territory, and, in return, France accepts the Austro-Italian Commercial Treaty. England, however, claims the most favoured nation treatment and so tar as she is concerned, the Tunis question remains unsettled The quarterly revenue retnrns show the receipts to be ±23,492,000. The customs provides £5,056,000, excise £7,653,000, and stamps £1,810,000. It is stated that the American detectives at one time, owing to Fenian threats, shadowed Mr Chamberlain for a week. Telegrams published here from Cairo state the British are asking the banks for an advance of 26 million francs on the security of the Egyptian revenue for the purpose of defraying the cost of the campaign.
