Skating Carnival.
A fancy dress and hat carnival was held at the Skating Rink last evening. There was a fair attendance of spectators and rinkists, bat not many in fancy costume. Prizes were awarded as follows—For best fancy dressed lady, Mias B. Bilderbeck, who appeared as " America," a silver nail knife and tooth pick ; Miss A. Flyger, representing " Morning," won the prize for second best dressed lady, and Miss M. Beattie the first prize (a silver bangle) for the largest hat worn by a lady. As there was no competition in the various classes for gentlemen's costumes no prises were given. In addition to thoso mentioned fancy costumes were worn as follows {—Miss %. Haybittle " Romp," Miss K. Fowles " Gipsy," Mr W. Cathro "Antonio" (from Merchant of Venice), Mr N. Bray " Monte Carlo," Mr D. Beattie " Headsman," Miss Saxon " Jack Tar," Mr R. Henson fi Volunteer," Mr E. Reade "Nigger"; eyening 4 resHes > Miss T. Dais, Mrs R. Newinan, and Mrs Howell. Seyeral of the dresses looked very pretty. Daring the eyening the Feildihg Brass. Band played a number of selections in their usually efficient manner. Miss Flyger was awarded second prize (silver knife), for lady's costume.
