The Transvaal.
FURTHER TROUBLE ANTICL PATED. [Per Press Association^ London, August 18. The Times' 'special reporter in Pretoria telegraphs that despite official denials many burghers assert that the Transvaal Government will shortly proclaim independence of England. He declares that the importation of arms and munitions of war is sufficient for the Transvaal and for a hundred thousand of their kinsmen in the Orange Free State and Cape Colony. He adds that the rinderpest has delayed the project. The report that a treaty has been concluded with the European Powers without consulting Great Britain has caused con* siderable excitement in England and in the Transyaal. President Kruger, however, states that he will respect the Convention with Great Britain. The Times, in dismissing the subject, says that if challenged Great Britain will settle the question once and for ever.
