Pohangina Notes.

o — A meeting of the Ratepayers' Association will be held in the Public Hall on Saturday, May 2nd, at 3 p.m., to discuss a proposal to erect two stock bridges over the river, one to serve the Upper Pohaugina and the other the Lower Pohangina. As this is a very important subject, all those interested should attend the meeting. Councillors Dickin and Eraser are expected to be present. There is every prospect of having another temperance meeting here shortly as certain enquiries have been made with that object in view, and also for the formation of a G«ed Templar's Lodge. The time and date will be duly announced, the place of meeting of course being in the Public Hall. When are our town and suburban sections to be sold '? Can anyone inform us ? Mr Cowan has leased his farm and house to Mr Spier. The former now lives on that section formerly owned, I belive, by Mr Nash. The Riverside boarding-house, formerly under the management of Mrs Griffiths, is now owned by Mrs Elderkin, late of Palmerston North. Our Public Hall has been lined and painted, and is now a comfortable useful building. The contractors for both jobs did their work well. Unfortunately, though, there is still a debt on it, and although we are doing our best to reduce it, we find it slow work, so if anyone will help us, kindly send on a donation to Mr Welsh, who will thankfully receive and acknowledge same. The famous cantata " The Haymakers," is to be kindly given by a number of Palmerston friends to help in this matter, and on April 24th we have a grand concert and dance for the same object, Several of the leading vocalists and reciters of Palmerston are expected to be present at this concert, in addition to our local talent. Our children are doing well with their collecting sheets in aid of the Brunner Relief Fund. I beleive the total will reach ££. — Standard.
