At a meeting yesterday a telegram was read from Mr Seddon, stating that he gave no authority to purchase immediate necessaries for the bereaved oues at the expense of Government. The Rev. Stewart said he was present at the time the Premier made the statement and gave the order. Several members complained of the Premier's action. Mr Petrie, editor of the Greymouth Star, moved that the bill of expenses be forwarded to the Premier, asking him to pay the amount. Christchurch, April 9. At a meeting of the Executive of the Canterbury Committee of the Re lief Fund, it was stated Canterbury would contribute £5000 to the fund. Nelson, April 9. At the Brunner Relief Committee meeting, the treasurer reported the sum now in hand is £612, while about £100 has gone from the district through other channels. He added that, if all New Zealand contributes on the same scale, the fund will reach about forty thousand pounds. It was resolvpcl that, as there is sufficient for pressing needs at Brunnerton, the Nelson funds bo retained till satisfactory arrangements are made for the administration in tome national way of the whole amount collected.
