The Masterton Licensing Case.

o (Per Press Association.) Wellington, March 28. In giving judgment in the case against E. Searle, charged with selling liquor at the Masterton show, and who wa3 fined £25 and costs for the first day and £40 and costs for the second day, Mr Hutchison, S.M., said under section 20 it was mandatory that the chairman as well as two members of the Committee must sign all licenses. Moreover, this was an infraction of the Stamp Act. The Magistrate said he made the fines so heavy because Searl had weighed all the consequences of his action, and because the ram fair was not a fair in the meaning of the Apt.
