London Markets.
(Per Press Association.) London, March 22. Five hundred and seventy-five casks of tallow were offered at the sales yesterday. Medium mutton sold at 21s 3d ; beef, 19s 9d. Wheat. The English market is heavy and inactive, Continental declining, and American week and falling. Hide, dull and unchanged } leather, basils, firm. A test shipment of varnished eggs sent from Illawarra arrived in fairly fresh condition, but are not suited to table purposes.
The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company (Limited) have received the following cablegram, dated London, March 20th :— Wool. — Tbe sales closed today. Since close of last sales washed and scoured merino, superior and greasy, and medium and inferior, are to ld per lb higher. Fine washed and scoured and medium greasy crossbred is £d to ld per lb higher. Medium and inferior scoured merino has advanced ld to l£d per lb, Medium and inferior washed merino, and fine greasy crossbred, £d per lb higher. Medium washed and scoured crossbred. Jd to ld per lb higher. Coarse greasy, washed, and scoured crossbred, and greasy crossbred lambs, are |d per lb higher. Slips have advanced |d to ld per lb. Other descriptions unchanged. The total quantity sold during the past sales is 187,000 bales, cf which 108,000 bales have been taken for the Continent, and 2,300 bales for America. It is estimated that 18,000 bales bave been held over for future disposal. The American demand has fallen off. Frozen Meats. — Mutton market de* pressed. Price of mutton has per lb since last report. Tallow. —There is little demand. New Zealand fine mutton tallow is worth 21s 6d per cwt. New Zealand good beef tallow is worth 20s per cwt. Quotations nominal.
