Unseaworthy Vessels.
(Per Press Association) Melbourne, March 18. Captain McKenzie, who was called as an expert, declared the steamer Wondorae ought to have been condemned five years ago. Ifc was alleged that he had been dismissed from his position as Surveyor to the Merchant Shipping Association because be had refused to report ou the conditions of vessels in a way tli at suited tbe Association aud ship owners. Mr Cleveland, tho Secretary of the Association, had verbally notified him to this effect. The President characterised tbe statement as a graye and serious imputation on public officers. Iv cross-examination McKenzie admitted he was dismissed because he j valued a steamer at .£16,000, which the arbitrators afterwards valued at Jt'lß,ooo. Tbe Superintending Engineer of the Huddart- Parker Co. said when the Wendorae was repaired she was perfectly seaworthy.
