Wellington Baths Question.

[ [Per Press Association.! Wellington, Feb. 11. The much yexed question of the City baths was ventilated to-night, when the meeting called by the Mayor (despite the resolution carried to the contrary by the Council by 7to 5), was held. There was a crowded attendance. The Mayor, in a strong speech, defended his action, the chief ground being that the question had been hung up long enough. Several members of tho Council and prominent citizens spoke and at times the proceedings were very lively. Ultimately a resolution by the Mayor that a poll of ratepayers be taken was carried. Further that the issue be—firstly, central bath : secondly, salt water bath at each end of the city ; thirdly, bath or no bath. The meeting generally appeared to be in favor of the second issup.
