Manchester Road Board.'
The regular monthly meeting of the above body was held at their offices, Feilding, on Saturday last. Pwsent--Messrs F. Y. Lethbridge (chairman), G. Wheeler, H. J. Booth, J. Parkiss, A. Conway, and W. G. Pearce. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. Correspondence was received and dealt with m follows : — From G. S. Bumble, Ashurst, applying for slaughter license.— Granted; . From J. Andrew, secretary Colyton Anglican Church committee, asking what the Board would sell old timber from Oroua bridge for, for making culi vert on road opposite church section. Mr Pearce to make arrangements with Mr Andrew. From L. Larsen, Bunnythorpe, asking if the Board would object to his straightening the Mangaone stream through his property to prevent it breaking into Jack's creek. — The Engineer to inspect. From J. F. Bishop, applying for license to slaughter on section 29, E, Manchester Block. — Granted. From F. Berry, Makino, offering 6b for right to cut grass seed on Junction road. - Granted. From Mary Corkery, asking that her name be placed on rate roil for section 5, sub-division C, instead of J. Corkery. From P. Hanlon, Ashurst, asking permission to erect a cart shed a few feet on road line in order that it shall be in line with a building already erected and which is a few feet on road line. From C. Y. Wycherly, Ashurst, drawing attention to a ditch in Guildford ■ street which required cleaning out. — Matter will be attended to before next winter. / From Secretary Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, applying for levy of £207 13s lOd due by this Board. Also, that the allowance to Mrs Brown mast . be reduced by 2s 6d a week, and relief to James Wise and Mrs Donaldson must be ceased. From M. Walsh, complaining that the ferryman at the Gorge ferry had refused to take him across the river. — Reply to be sent to the effect that the Board regrets the fact that the ferryman misconstrued his instructions and delayed Mr Walsh. From J. Aitken, ferryman at the Gorge, explaining the reason for complaints against him. He said that at the time of Mr Walsh's complaint the boat was being used by the men who were replacing the punt, and if it had been taken away ten or twelve men. would have been kept idle and the replacing of the punt delayed. From A. Toxward, re the Board's claim against him. From E. Laurenson, requesting that bis name be removed from rate roll for section 66 a, Manchester Block, and that of E. Carr substituted. From H. Crabb, requesting that C. Parson's name be placed on rate roll for section 19, Tokorangi, in place of bis. From Pahiatna County Council, stating that from January Ist, 1896, they would undertake to maintain their portion of the Gorge road, and that the previous agreement would now be cancelled as the Manchester Road Board had failed to keep its portion of the agreement. Also, requesting that a statement of accounts be furnished. . From D. Sutherland, applying fot slaughter license. Mr E. Schwass waited on the Board with reference to the application made to him to repair McCrea's road, it having been damaged by his carting heavy loads over said road. Mr jichwass said that others had carted equally heavy loads as be* on the road in question and they should be made responsible as well as he. Resolved, That the Engineer be instructed to report on site for buildings requested by P. Hanlon, Ashurst. Resolved, That the following alterations be made on the rate roll as requested :-r-From Messrs Arthur Bros, to Herbert Hart; from Hugh Crabb to Charles Parsons, section 19, Tokorangi ; and E. Laurenson to Ernest Can, section 66, A. Special orders were made striking rates to cover interest on loans of .JE957 for one-third cost of repairs to Onepuhi bridge, £231 18s lOd for Stoney Creek bridge, £500 for 1 16ths cost of Kiwitea bridge within the Feilding Borough. Proposed by Mr Wheeler, seconded by Mr Conway, That the roadman be instructed to wait one week, to enable those carters whose traffic injured McCrea's road, to repair the same. After one week the Engineer to have road re* paired and put the accounts into the hands of the Board's solicitor. — Carried. Proposed by Mr Parkiss, seconded by Mr Pearce, That the dog tax for the year be fixed at 2s 6d sheep and cattle dogs, and 10s for all other kinds ; and that tenders be called for collection of same ; and that the Clerk write to the collector for last year to furnish a full return of the number of dogs registered during the year, not later than the 24th of this month.— Carried. Proposed by Mr Parkiss, seconded by Mr Wheeler, That the letter from Pahiatna County Council be acknowledged, and that the returns asked for be sent. —Carried. Proposed by Mr Wheeler, seconded by Mr Booth, That Mr Rink be allowed six weeks to complete the metalling of the Waituna road. If then not finished the penalty for non-competition to be enforced — Carried. Proposed by Mr Booth, seconded by Mr Wheeler, That the Engineer be instructed to have Forlong's road opened for cart traffic, not to cost more than £2. —Carried. , Accounts were passed for payment and the Board adjourned.
