A Sea Horror.
(Per Press Association). Sydney, December 24. The steamer Asphidee reports that ten cargo boats, laden with salt from Moulmein, were caught in a cyclone. One vessel began to leak, and the crew took to rafts. One raft containing six men drifted about four days. One by one the men either fell off from sheer exhaustion or was washed off. There were two left on board when the steamer Bagdad bore down to them. One was holding up a stick on which he was flying a signal of distress. The other was lying in a semi-conscious condition, with his head almost under the water. His toes had been eaten by fish. His hands and body were swollen to such on extent that he was hardly recognisable as human. After careful nursing he recovered, and was returned to Rangoon. The men stated they had been previously sighted by a steamer and taken in tow, but the line parted, and they were left to their fate.
