BICYCLE HANDICAPS.
TO THE EDITOB. Sib, — I notice your paper is making severe comments upon my handicapping. I quite admit that discrepancies appear I to exist, but it is impossible for you or anyone else, except the Palmerston N. Cycling Club Secretary, to criticise, as you do not know the various circumstances under which riders have entered. Also, if the various weights of machines had been given with handicaps, as I begged for them, you might have criticised. I have not time to explain everything now, but I can assure you I spent thirty- six hours upon the nominations, and every circumstance was duly taken into consideration. You say the Woodville cyclists are dissatisfied, I think you are in error. I do not remember one entering, but I can tell you every rider in Palmerston is apparently very bitter I have been so much badgered that I have determined to resign. I have checked the handicaps at least a dozen times since they were published but I cannot alter them. The " sports " hero are offering 10 to 1 against any picks, so if your people can pick the winner they can make money. j I am, etc.. B. Essex. Palmerston ft., December 20th. !
