Feilding Polo Club.

The first annual meeting of members • of the Feilding Polo Clab wm held at (he Feilcting Hotel on Saturday evening. Present— Messrs C. A. J. Levett (in the chair), O. C. Cooper (secretary) H. P. Lance, W. F. Elkington, F. Saxon, F. Pickering, A. N. Hayne, E. M. Lewis* B. O. French, N. Gorton, A. 0. Matheaon, S. Strachan, W. B Giesen. . ■=- - The minutes of the previous meeting > having been read and confirmed, the Secretary read the report and bjJance sheet for the season 1894 95 The report was as follows :— ■" In pri- ■ senting this, their first annual report* yonr committee have pleasure in eon* , gratulating members of the club on the past successful season. The club was inaugurated on Satnrday, November 3rd, . 1894, the first practice being held on Mr Turner's paddock that afternoon. Some of the Bangitikei members kindly attended and did what they could to assist the club. Messrs Lethbridge and Sons kindly placed a ground at the disposal of the club, and very generously offered to plough and put same in order, should the committee consider it advisable: Yttar committee again take this opportunity of placing on record their appreciation of the assistance Messrs Lethbridge and Sons have accorded the club. Matches were , played by the first team against the following clubs :— Manawatn (twice), Bangitikei (twice), and Oroua, all being lost by jour club with the exception of the , last match of the season, played* on the local ground, when the Feuding team de« bated the Maoaweta Ctab by 3 goals to 1. The second team played three matches.. Manawatu and Bangitikei (twice), winning two and losing one. The dub* is to be congratulated on the above .result, which is a very creditable performance for so young a club playing its first sea-, son. Your committee folly anticipate the . club will be even moire successful this, coming season. Members are doubtless, aware the N. Z. Polo tournament will be. held at Palmerston next year, provided the Manawatu Club are enabled to get. the ground in proper order.-. It is proposed to enter two teams from this club,, . and your committee trust every member will do his utmost, by practice and by having his ponies fit, to uphold the prestige of the cinb on that occasion, i Members should bear in mind that good ponies mean good players, and it is imperative all should do what they can to improve their class of ponies when possible. The . thanks of the club are due to the several ladies who kindly provided afternoon tea at the matches and on practice afternoons, thereby adding greatly to the enjoyment of the game". The balance-sheet showed a creditbalance in hand of £116s8d, the expenditure having been £86 2s, of which amount of £21 12s 6d was for the purchase of sticks, and £6 7s 6d for balls. The receipts were from members' subscriptions £23 2s, from defunct Feilding Hunt Club £5 7sßd, and £S lls from the sale of sticks. The liabilities are nil, and in addition to the cash; there are sticks on hand valued at £6 Bs. * On the motion of Mr Straohair, seconded by Mr Lance, the report and balance sheet as read were adopted. Correspondence was received from the Secretary to the Polo Association, with reference to a meeting to be held in Christchuxch on December: 18th, the subject matter of which had already been referred to this Club's delegate,- ' and the Secretary was instructed to . reply forwarding a copy of previous letter containing resolutions in favor of a junior cup, and opposing the proposal _ to raise the height of ponies; '■-■-' The following were elected members of the dub:— Messrs F. de Lisle, C. H* Coote, and — Cox. ' ■ , -.:r'-'-<y^oMK . The election of officers resulted as - follows: President, Mr F.Y. Lethbridge; vice-presidents, Messrs D. P. Buchanan; C. A. J. Levett, and D. Downes; captain, Mr N. Gorton; secretary, Mr 0. Cooper; general committee, Messrs W. B. Oiesen, Lewis, Lance, Strachan, and Pickering; working committee, Messrs Hayne, Gorton, Giesen, and Cooper; auditor, Mr W. B. Oiesen. ■ ■■ ' The Secretary announced that the Hawkes' Bay Club were sending a team to play at Feilding on December 20th. Resolved, That the Captain select all teams. Resolved, That the colors be a white shirt, with royal blue sash, cap, and waist band, and that the Secretary make arrangements fox procuring stich. r w " The Secretary stated that with referenco to the ground, the reason they had not accepted Messrs Lethbridge's ! offer was because it was understood the Jockey Club were likely to purchase the racecourse, in which case this club would have leased fourteen acres in the centre at a rental of £14 a year, and they wanted to keep np practice while this was being prepared. -, This intention had to be abandoned as the Jockey Club bad dropped the idea of purchasing the course for the present. Resolved, That the question of a ground be left in the hands of the committee, and that this meeting suggest that they make arrangement with Messrs Lethbridge and Sons to make the present ground a .permanent one. r Besolved, That the subscription be the same as last year (2ls). A vote of thanks was accorded to Miss Lewis, who had provided cups and saucers for the use of the club, i and to the ladies who provided afternoon tea.
