* (Per Press Association). Sydney; This Day. As the Vancouver subsidy expires in May next the question of renewing, or otherwise, will probably be decided be* fore the present session closes. The Daily Telegraph, commenting on the subject, says when the subsidy was proposed three years ago the principal objection was that the line was likely to do no more than divide amongst the two the trade with America which at that time was confined to one. Hobart, Dec. 5. Margaret Goaa, a girl of sixteen, was brought into Oatland, Tasmania, to be treated for snakebite. She had pat her hand into a rabbit burrow, when a diamond snake . fastened on her middle finger. With exceptional presence of mind and heroic nerve she severed the joint with a hand hoe. The usual subcutaneous injections of strychnine with stimulants were applied, and skill and patience were rewarded. She has since left for home, with every prospect of perfect restoration to health. Pebth, This Day. The revenue for the past month indicates an advance in the condition of the colony as compared with November 1894. The improvement shows an increase of 120 per cent, in land revenue which is most striking, the amount received being £43,000 as against £1400 for the same period last year. This amount was solely for land sold and excludes monies received for mining leases.
